Choosing the correct type of vanity mirror can often be a difficult process to carry out, not only when choosing for oneself, but especially if selecting a mirror as a gift or present. With several factors to consider, the following points should help the deciding and buying process considerably.

Size – the first point to consider is the size of the mirror itself and the size of the whole product. Both must be suitable for the room it is to be placed in and the needs of the person who will be using it. For example, whilst a 12 inch mirror may be cheaper (for example, if it were in a sale), the full size of the product, including the base and frame, may exceed 15 inches. This would be unsuitable for a room where a mirror of only 6 inches is required, as not only will it take up too much space, but the extra inches will be unwanted and therefore wasted.

Design – the actual aesthetics of a vanity mirror play a large part in the purchasing process for many. Especially in terms of use in a bedroom, the mirror should look part of the room and be as fitting as possible to where it is to be situated. A prime example would be for use on a dressing table. It would be inappropriate, aesthetically, to purchase a gold framed and based mirror if the majority of the dressing table was based around silver.

Base or fixings – one of the main points to consider that is often overlooked are the fixings or base that comes with the mirror. Depending on the type of mirror required and where it is to be placed depends on the type of fixings or base that is required. A mirror that is for the bathroom wall, for example, requires the correct fixings for it to be attached securely to a tiled wall. However, a mirror for a bedroom dressing table will often only require a sturdy base to ensure that it is not easily knocked over.

Rotating mirror – useful for all uses of vanity mirrors, a rotating mirror allows the person using it to get the best reflection possible. Depending on the light that is being used in the room, the reflection on the mirror can be terrible and can make the mirror impossible to use. Therefore if the mirror is moveable, it can be adjusted to ensure it is in the best possible position for when it is being used. Furthermore, many moveable mirrors have a second mirror on the back that often provides a larger reflection – perfect for more close up work, such as precision shaving.

The increase in popularity of online shopping review sites in recent years has made finding quality products a much easier process. There are often several truthful and impartial reviews for most items that are bought and with popular items such as vanity mirrors, reviews can be plentiful.

Although review sites can aid with the process of looking for a suitable mirror, they shouldn’t be relied upon wholly. Most people’s reviews are submitted truthfully and accurately, however there are some reviews submitted which have come from the company that has created the mirror. This doesn’t often happen but when it does, it can sway the prospective buyer into purchasing a mirror they do not really want.

When reading a selection of vanity mirror reviews, it is often best to take the negative points of the review with a pinch of salt. Many people focus on the positive aspects briefly, such as the large mirror size and cheap cost, but spend a lot of time finding faults with some of the most minor points, which most people wouldn’t be overly concerned about.

To ensure the most appropriate and suitable mirror is purchased, reviews and recommendations from friends, family and colleagues should be taken into consideration. Reviews from trusted friends are often the best form as they would not like to recommend a mirror that has been unsuitable or has not served its purpose properly to a friend.

If one is deciding to write a vanity mirror review, several points must be considered to ensure the best and most informative review possible is written. First of all, a brief introduction into why the mirror was purchased is a good place to start. The mirror’s specification should follow, providing details of everything from the size of the mirror (both width and height) to the color and type of wood of the frame. Further to this, some general positive points about the mirror should be made. These could include facts such as if it carried out its purpose, if it was easy to assemble and if it was aesthetically pleasing. Prior to a general conclusion to the whole mirror, any negative points should be listed. Whilst reviews should never contain lies, reviewers should try and not dwell on any minor negative points. Many people are put off buying an item if they see a review where, for example, someone has wrote a whole paragraph about how the wood wasn’t the correct shading. In this case, a simple mention of the color may not be exactly as represented on the image provided would more than suffice and offer the prospective buyer an honest and truthful review.
